Maurita Hassler was named 2023 Assisted Living Worker of the Year by the Kansas Health Care Association/Kansas Center for Assisted Living.

“Maurita is an incredible example of compassionate caregiving and dedication to elders,” said Kasey Breidenthal, vice president for operations and sales for ComfortCare Homes. “Maurita goes above and beyond with leading her younger caregivers and has grown in professionalism and willingness to work through hard or difficult times with residents and families.”

Hassler has been with ComfortCare Homes for 13 years.  In the past two years, Hassler lost her mother and her daughter, but she continued to show up. She is regularly named “one of the best” by family members in satisfaction surveys.

The Kansas Health Care Association is a statewide nonprofit association that represents more than 260 long-term care providers. Members provide nursing health care to over 20,000 convalescent and chronically ill Kansans.

KHCA’s involvement in licensure, reimbursement, administrator licensing, the survey process, and legislative issues has provided fair representation of our long-term care providers (independently owned as well as multi-facility corporate owners) while supporting improved health care for Kansas’s long-term care residents.

In 2000 the association established the Kansas Center for Assisted Living (KCAL) to improve representation and services for the state’s assisted living and residential health care providers.

Each year, KHCA/KCAL recognizes outstanding caregivers, directors of nursing, and environmental services directors.
