ComfortCare Homes celebrates, reflects as founder is named ‘Uncommon Citizen’ by Wichita Chamber

Doug Stark, founder of ComfortCare Homes in Wichita, KS, has been recognized as an "Uncommon Citizen" by the Wichita Chamber of Commerce for his decades-long commitment to improving the local community.

Stark, a lifelong Wichitan, expressed his deep gratitude for the honor, stating, "I love Wichita. It's really exciting to see the downtown area explode with growth. I've done some nice things, but so have a lot of other people."

From his unwavering support of the local arts scene to his pivotal role in raising millions for charity through the "Grumpy Old Men" initiative, Stark's impact is undeniable. He has also been a dedicated Big Brother and a 40-year member of Rotary, where he received the prestigious "Service Above Self" award.

ComfortCare Homes CEO Micala Gingrich-Gaylord remarked, "Doug has done all of this while running a business that cares for our most vulnerable citizens. It's not easy work, but Doug has navigated it for many years."

Stark's leadership at ComfortCare Homes exemplifies his commitment to compassionate care. "We have a large emphasis on resident engagement," he explained. "We don't just let our residents sit and watch television all day. They do stuff."

A committee of local leaders selected Stark for the "Uncommon Citizen" award through an independent vote. The award will be presented at a ceremony on April 17th.

The Wichita Chamber held the first Honors Night in 1963. The Uncommon Citizen award originated in 1974.
